1. Warmup Tune

How could you take this whole thing back and spin it around on me?

You're right: I fuck it up. I'm not enough, yet.

How could you make things better for us, and not just for you?

Ya know, where I stand, your lips look real purple.

What should I say? You look way cold.

I think you need to tone it down, just so you know.

This is your warmup tune.

The sun is out and it burns slow.

So while I catch you shivering you need to know:

This is your warmup tune.

Everybody knows there's nothing you could throw my way

that trips me up the way they're saying. I don't do like that, I won't crawl it back.

How could you take this whole thing back and spin it around on me?

You're right: I fuck it up. But not in the good way.

What should I say? You look way cold.

I think you need to tone it down, just so you know.

This is your warmup tune.

The sun is out and it burns slow.

So while I catch you shivering you need to know:

This is your warmup tune.

2. Purple Stains

Now you want me to say that name.

Nothing I could say could ever make you less proud.

Talking about "it's fake" - you don't know what you're saying.

I tried to paint my mood, and all I got was purple stains.

Go on, say it: you can say what you want to tell me.

There ain't nobody laughing, yet you smile ear to ear.

You're wanting just to pass it on, to feel afraid;

my head is spinning round and round from hearing what you say.

So you say: somewhere, there might be someone waiting,

for us to show up when it's going down?

Keep it goin' round - Where do these ideas come from?

I want you to know something: know I've always meant well.

I want you to know there's something, something there and it...

And it's always calling. Always. You want to keep it on the low.

Ask you what you're thinking, I don't think you'd even know.

And it's always calling. Always. You want to keep it in control.

You ask me where it's going, I just think I'll let it go.

And you would never get enough, get enough.

Tell me once you see what you wanna see, yeah,

think you'd ever get enough, get enough?

Tell me: if you want, you could go back home.

Now you want me to say that name.

Write it on the wall, leave your purple stains.

You were saying lots of things you didn't even know,

now I cannot separate - I can't let it go...

Talker's Notes:

I love this song. It's actually based on an inside joke I have with one of my friends, which is based on an even more bizarre story involving elevators and gangs...

3. Death Grip

So when'd you start to say those things?

It wasn't when you met me...

And why do you still have that ring?

It seems like that's the old you...

And I can feel your death grip close.

And I can feel your death grip close.

Your hands get dirty when I sing.

You choose to keep them as they are: filthy.

You squeeze me in the Metropolitan

and choke me in the galleries, oh no...

And I can feel your death grip close.

And I can feel your death grip close.

4. Come Get Me

Why you mad? Why you hating for?

I do not feel like I've done nothing...

Why do that? Why berate my soul?

I threw my badness in the river, and did it all for you.

Well, I don't want to tell a half-truth...

No one wants this now, and they never ever would!

Am I wrong then, for wanting to leave here?

If I'm wrong then, please - someone come get me.

Why be mad, why do so much?

You don't even know what I'll be like in a few years,

or any given day...

Why do that, why fake or front?

Why say what you want? Why feel out all the bumps?

If you don't even think it's worth it, keep walking away.

Well, I don't want to tell a half-truth...

No one wants this now, and they never ever would!

Am I wrong then, for wanting to leave here?

If I'm wrong then, please - someone come get me.

I will not fall asunder, at least not to something this dumb, dumb.

Don't you tell me nothing I don't want to hear right now.

This is not for you to come and tell me what is wrong.

Am I wrong then, for wanting to leave here?

If I'm wrong then, please - someone come get me.

Talker's Notes:

I have to shout out my long time friend and collaborator Louie Diller here. Those are his vocals in the background at the end while the "crowd" joins in.

Generally when I present a finished song to Louie for him to begin mixing and mastering, he'll sometimes offer a few production clean-up tips ("make this a bit tighter here," "can you come up with another synth line here Talker?," etc.), and this time when I sent him the finished Come Get Me track for mixing it didn't even have the final chorus in it.

It's always good to have a fresh pair of ears, ESPECIALLY since I write and produce all these songs on my own in isolation. He suggested going through the chorus at least once more after the guitar solo I did, and then he - on his own - came up with and recorded all of the background vocals that you hear behind me. Real consummate professional shit!

5. That Call

I can't wait much longer,

'cuz you know I don't want any part of that, of that.

I can't wait much longer,

'cuz you know I don't want any part of that, of that.

I can't asy much more now,

'cuz I know I'll ruin what we had, my love, my love.

I'm not saying what I want to, but either way, either way,

you gotta make that call, that call, that call for me.

I don't know what you won't do, just let me say what I say,

you gotta make that call, that call, that call for me.

I don't want no part of that,

'cuz I know things don't match up with my dreams of our lives.

Either way, you hate it now, but I'm still holding on tight

for you to give it back.

I'm not saying what I want to, but either way, either way,

you gotta make that call, that call, that call for me.

I don't know what you won't do, just let me say what I say,

you gotta make that call, that call, that call for me.
